Enlightenment

Don't let this word scare you away,
you might be surprised by its meaning.

This word has nothing to do with the mystical or with the super-human. My favorite definition of enlightenment is:

The End of Suffering

And enlightened person:

  1. Always has a sense of peace in their heart, regardless of the chaos and madness that rages around them.

  2. Is always happy to be exactly where they are, doing exactly what they are doing. They aren't wishing things were different.

  3. Doesn't dwell on the past, or dread an imagined future. They are fully aware, present, and involved in the present-moment -- the NOW.

  4. Is loving, kind, and generous to everyone, because he or she sees that we are all "in this thing together".

  5. Is free of judgment and labels. They accept people, places, and things exactly as they are. They see that putting things in groups is unnecessary. They don't see themselves as above or below anyone.

  6. Is rarely sick, and they age more slowly than others. Their sparkling essence shines through even when they grow old.

  7. Understands that there are infinite paths to enlightenment, and he or she is compassionate to people on paths other than their own.

  8. Seems to have "everything go their way". This is because they are in-sync with the universe, rather than fighting it every step of the way.

  9. Is never afraid, nervous, concerned, obsessed, or anxious about anything. They always seem to be calm and to "have it all together".

  10. Has no need to drink alcohol, use drugs, own expensive things, seek rank or status, or participate in high-risk thrills to be happy. He or she sees that these are only temporary fixes and they tend to addictive.

  11. Doesn't care much about what other people think of them.

  12. Is happy.
